OUR PROGRAMS

Founded in 2002, HEARTS provides one of Hawaiʻi’s most comprehensive youth performing arts programs. We offer choir, musical theatre, and hula for students from early childhood through post-high school — combining artistic excellence with deep respect for culture, language, and identity.
Students don’t just learn music. They grow as leaders, teammates, and community members.
What We Do
-
We serve over 90 students in grades K–12 from more than 30 schools across Oʻahu.
-
HEARTS offers choir, musical theatre, and hula programs that celebrate Hawaiian culture while introducing students to global musical traditions.
-
We present free and low-cost public performances in schools, community spaces, eldercare facilities, churches, and theatres across the island.
-
Our programs remain accessible through affordable tuition and need-based scholarships.
-
Families join us from communities across Oʻahu, including Waimānalo, Kāneʻohe, Kailua, Kapolei, Waiʻanae, Pearl City, and beyond.
Why HEARTS Matters
Many Hawaiʻi students lack access to strong arts education in school. HEARTS fills that gap with a welcoming, culturally grounded program where young people build confidence, discipline, creativity, and belonging — skills that last a lifetime.
Culturally Grounded Education
Students perform music in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and many heritage languages, including Samoan, Ilokano, Portuguese, Māori, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, and more.
Instruction includes:
-
Musical technique and ensemble skills
-
Cultural and historical context
-
Language pronunciation and meaning
Students become not only performers, but thoughtful cultural participants. Alongside Hawaiian repertoire, students study Western classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. This balanced approach builds strong musical literacy while connecting local traditions with global artistry.
Community Performance
Students share their music at:
-
Eldercare facilities
-
Hospitals
-
Churches
-
Professional theatre stages
These performances build confidence and create connections across generations throughout Oʻahu.
Leadership & Teen Opportunities
Older students can:
-
Mentor younger singers
-
Assist rehearsals
-
Lead creative projects
-
Support social media and outreach
We also offer college internships in arts education, and award $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors each year.
Waimānalo School Partnership
HEARTS provides an after-school music program at Blanche Pope Elementary School, teaching Hawaiian and Western music. Tuition-free scholarships are available for Waimānalo residents of Hawaiian ancestry.
